Lucinda Williams Sweet Old World

Lucinda Williams Sweet Old World Rock Camp
12 weeks
Starts September 12 (no class Thanksgiving week)
Thursdays with Josh Stark

Lucinda Williams' 4th album Sweet Old World, released in 1992, was voted the 11th best album of 1992 in The Village Voice's Pazz & Jop, an annual poll of prominent music critics. Robert Christgau, the poll's creator, ranked it 6th on his own year-end list, later writing that the album was gorgeous, flawless, brilliant [with] short-story details ('chess pieces,' 'dresses that zip up the side') packing a textural thrill akin to local color.

Way hay and all that.

Be a person singing among people singing. What a feeling!
No pre-requisite!
People singing singalong shanty songs!
People singing songs with gusto in unison or even, god forbid, harmonized!
People singing, but not too fancy.
Let it out on Mondays with us! It feels good.

Traffic Rock Camp

Oasis Rock Camp
12 weeks
Starts September 18. No class Thanksgiving week.
Wednesdays with Mark Westin

Traffic were an English rock band, formed in Birmingham, UK, in April 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. They began as a psychedelic rock group and diversified their sound through the use of instruments such as keyboards like the Mellotron and harpsichord, sitar, and various reed instruments, and by incorporating jazz and improvisational techniques in their music. Their first three singles were Paper Sun, Hole in My Shoe, and Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush.

Traffic disbanded in 1969, during which time Winwood joined Blind Faith, then reunited in 1970 to release the critically acclaimed album John Barleycorn Must Die.

*Class does not meet on Halloween,Thanksgiving; and meetings will be limited around the Christmas-New Years week.
This rock camp's Performance will take place in early February.

We are very excited to offer this extended camp where we will have the opportunity to dive deep and give this complex album the time and attention it deserves.

From thebeatles.com :

First issued on 26th September, 1969 Abbey Road was the final Beatles album to be recorded but not their last to be released. Let It Be, though mainly recorded in January, 1969 was finally released in May, 1970 alongside the film of the same name.

Following the 'live' nature of the "Let It Be" recordings, for Abbey Road, The Beatles returned to the North London studios to create carefully crafted recordings with ambitious musical arrangements. Interestingly, 12 of the songs that appeared on the finished album were played during the filmed rehearsals and sessions for "Let It Be" back in January.

For the first time on a Beatles album, the front cover contained neither the group's name nor the album title just that iconic photograph taken on the zebra crossing near the entrance to the studios in London NW8 in August 1969.

Abbey Road entered the British album chart at no.1 in October and stayed there for a total of seventeen of its 81 weeks in the chart. In the US, it spent eleven weeks at #1 during its initial chart stay of 83 weeks.

Advanced Songwriting.
Oct 1, 2019 - Nov 19, 2019

Advanced Songwriting
8 weeks
Oct 1-Nov 19
Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm with Stephen Clair

A class for songwriters who are looking to turn up the heat on themselves, challenge themselves. There will be weekly multi-layered prompts. Writers will be asked to write stylistically outside of their comfort zone at times. You will write a new song each week, always based on some new set of parameters. That means you're going to suddenly add a good 7+ songs to your repertoire. Songs you didn't know you had in you.

Please email me if you'd like to hear more about the plan for this class, (and the class that I took that has inspired this).

Group Guitar for the People (Beginners)
Oct 7, 2019 - Dec 9, 2019

Group Guitar for the People
10 weeks
Starts Oct 7
Mondays 6-7pm with Stephen Clair

Somewhere in your house, there is a guitar. Or at the very least, at your friend's house. There's no shortage of guitars in this world, nor is there a shortage of people who always intended to play a little. Well guess what? This time, if you want to, you will play. Once and for all, pick that thing up, dust it off, and get over here.

You will be entertaining at least a few people with your newfound guitar chops by the end of this class. In this (mostly for adults, but older teens who are willing to hang are welcome) class, we'll start at the very beginning, progress logically, slowly, covering the basics of getting you up and running in an efficient way. You will need a functional instrument, a notebook, a pencil. And you will need to practice a couple few times a week.

Come learn to play the guitar. Once and for all.

The more the merrier!

This class also makes a great gift...eh-hm.

Please email us if you have ANY questions about your place in this class, how hopeful we are about your success at guitar, to share your reason for wanting to play, or about the instrument you propose to bring to class: play@beaconmusicfactory.com
