Description

DESCRIPTION: Adaptation is a method of adjusting traditional yoga postures to meet the specific needs of students. Adaptations are useful because they increase awareness of movement, develop new movement patterns, and help improve body functioning. During this 10-hour training, be prepared to learn the thinking process used to adapt poses within group classes or for individuals including: identifying common conditions/needs for set population, creating clear intention for practice, and cueing methods. This workshop will include some lecture, group work, and practice. Bring your ideas of favorite poses to be adapted or specific conditions that would require special adaptations. Additional resources will be provided to participants. Participants are encouraged to bring note-taking materials, a practice mat, and wear comfortable clothing for movement. Yoga Alliance CEUs will be available (10 hours for participation in both days of training).

This class will be led by Dr. Kim Allen, a certified 500-hour teacher and 500-hour yoga therapist through the American Viniyoga Institute. Kim has her doctorate in Health Education and has been teaching yoga since 1996 to a wide range of specialty populations.
