Single Point Hammock 101 is a 90-minute workshop suited for complete beginners as well as students who have been out of practice and would like a refresher on the basics of single point hammock.
Students will learn how to enter and exit the hammock safely and efficiently, begin the basics of spinning, and learn how to safely and gracefully move through a series of fun shapes and tricks. A warmup will be taught at the beginning of class to prepare you for flight, as well as a cool down at the end to settle you back into the ground. This workshop will be sure to leave you wanting more!
About the Instructor:
Laura has been creative and active from a young age playing with gymnastics, team sports, running, swimming, language arts, and dramatic arts. She started practicing yoga as a teenager by following a Yoga + Pilates dvd to sculpt and build stamina during her musical performances. Laura further developed her yoga practice through her theatre training at university. She became enamored with the confidence, strength, flexibility, and the creative movement that she explored through her practice. Having received her BFA in Theatre Performance Arts, she has traveled and performed in Seattle, Vancouver, and Seoul as an actor, puppeteer, mask maker, artist, model and teacher. In 2011, Laura studied bodywork at Cortiva Massage Institute, and she advanced her knowledge of human anatomy and human connection. In 2014 she took her first aerial silks class in Seattle, and she became obsessed with flying. Upon finishing her 200 HR Yoga Teacher Training at Richmond Beach Yoga in Seattle, she moved to New York on a gut impulse and fell head over heels for the aerial community at Om. She received her 50 HR Aerial Yoga TT at Om Factory, 25 HR Restorative Yoga TT at Laughing Lotus, 35 HR Yoga Nidra TT at the Bhakti Center. Laura is also a Rainbow Kids Yoga Teacher, and enjoys teaching students of all ages. She has performed as an aerialist in Showcases at OM Factory, The Muse, Cosmic Fit Club and the Slipper Room. As a teacher Laura targets the core, balances flexibility and strength training, and enjoys making weird and pretty shapes to help students advance their aerial practice.
