Description
The power of sound in the form of
mantra, song, and music has been used as a tool for connection,
healing and reaching higher states of consciousness since ancient
times.
In this course, you will learn an
introduction to traditional Indian sound practices that can be
incorporated in yoga, meditation, or class session.
Students will explore the history of sound based on traditional stories and Vedic philosophy. We will explore Sanskrit pronunciation and how these sounds affect our physical and energetic bodies. Students will learn how to use a mantra personally and with others. We will learn short mantra as well as verses that are safe and effective for all.
The students will explore how to ground their bodies and develop strength through ancient vocal exercises based on the Sama Veda, as well as how to use the ancient sound system of Raga. They will also explore some therapeutic uses of Rāga. Students will then learn the difference between mantra and kirtan as well as the variation in styles based on specific traditions. We will go deeper into the stories and philosophy behind specific deities.
