This Yin Yoga class is open to all levels of practitioners. Yin Yoga is a special practice that directly affects one's fluidity and mobility within the body by specifically addressing the joint and connective tissue. The theory of Yin Yoga will be explained through the experiential component of this workshop. We will experience a practice of core yin poses that address the hips and lower back. Yin Yoga is distinguished from other yoga practices by the length of time one holds the poses in a relaxed but mindful way; each pose can be held from 3-7 minutes. This length of time allows the myofascial system to be deeply affected and the inherent tension patterns within the body to be challenged and possibly altered. Come with a sincere interest to learn more about Yin Yoga and to deepen your practice.

Melissa teaches in such a way that she talks you through each pose, sometimes with an emphasis on alignment and anatomy but also incorporates Yoga philosophy, somatic inquiry, breath awareness, and visualization. Some periods of silence, and opening and closing meditations, will also be included.
