This class is a perfect balance of Sthira (strength) and Sukha (ease)- led based on the BKS Iyengar lineage, and focused on holding postures for 5 breaths or more, while maintaining ease of breath to build strength and stability. Hatha yoga is about balancing the body and mind. ‘Ha’ represents the esoteric sun (building heat in the body), and ‘tha’ the moon (cooling the body in the latter half of the practice). Use of props is encouraged to allow the body to ease into the correct alignment in the pose, with intention of building strength while avoiding injury. The latter half of the class is where we welcome a cooling down of the body, as we settle into our yin postures. These target the deep connective tissues in the body, such as our fascia, ligaments and joints. Postures are held for a minimum of 3 minutes, to allow the body to begin to repair and restore. No previous yoga experience is required.

Who would benefit most from this class:

People who consider themselves a Beginner or Intermediate Level practitioner and are looking for deeper tissue release. This is because the Yang portion of class invites more heating asanas including Sun salutations before softening into a deep stretch.

This class is not recommended for those with clinical hypermobility issues.
