Deb Althoff, RYT-500, found the practice of yoga in the 1990’s and her life was forever changed. Her own practice revealed opportunities for emotional healing, and her yoga teacher studies led her to dive deeper into the therapeutic benefits of yoga. She received her 200-hour yoga teacher training, as well as 300-hour Healing Emphasis Yoga certification through Inner Vision Yoga.

Deb believes that yoga can benefit every body, regardless of physical capabilities. You don’t need to be flexible to practice yoga - you just need to be willing. She brings a joyful and lighthearted approach to her yoga classes, helping students recognize their own glory, as well as their ability to heal and thrive.

Would you like to teach at hospitals, senior centers, or nursing homes? Learn how to teach Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga and Therapeutic Yoga to this fast growing population . By adapting traditional yoga poses to work therapeutically on the floor or in a chair, you can bring the accessible benefits of yoga to those who can not do a 'generalized' yoga class.

Seniors age 65 and older represent the fastest growing population in the U.S., and are increasingly drawn to yoga for its proven health benefits. Yoga can be an excellent solution to many common health concerns found in that age group. Yet, many of our yoga classes are simply inaccessible to those who have significant health concerns. This 10-hour workshop will cover:

  • How to safely and effectively teach yoga to older adults
  • How to work with health conditions common to this age group including arthritis, osteoporosis, heart conditions, chronic pain, joint replacement and restricted range of motion.
  • Special modifications to keep your yoga safe for everyone
  • Yoga practices to improve bone mass, flexibility, enhance balance and elevate mood
  •

Facilitated by Donna Martens

Certified Yoga Therapist and eRYT 500 Master Level Instructor

The human body can be subdivided in 14 skeletal segments and 10 myofascial groups. These regions are the target areas of all yin yoga poses. Understanding these segments and groups makes it quite simple to design and teach yin yoga classes.

This course will present these target areas are exercised by the 7 archetypal yin poses.

A functional approach to yoga that emphasizes skeletal variation and target areas is simpler, safer, and more effective than the various contradictory ‘rules of alignment’ floating around in the yoga world. Basing the practice of yoga on the science of anatomy gives the student a solid foundation for all their future studies.

Students should have two years yoga experience and should bring blankets or pads so they can be comfortable practicing floor postures. If weather is chilly be sure to dress in comfortable clothes. CEU's available.
