Join senior teacher, Kyra Weinberger (eRYT-500) at True Love Yoga for 4 weeks of Ashtanga Yoga. The ultimate purpose of the Ashtanga practice is purification of the body and mind. Ashtanga differs from other types of yoga because it is a marriage of breath and movement to create flow. By moving in the set sequence, your breath and focus come to the forefront. In this 4 week online series, you will receive:
An introduction to dynamic flow in sun salutations (surya namaskar);
An introduction to the eight limb philosophy of yoga (ashta anga);
Expert guidance in finding the rhythm of your breath (pranayama); and
Exploration of basic standing and seated postures.
Kyra has taught Ashtanga Yoga since 2009 and is known for her compassionate spirit and depth in the traditions of this practice. This series will take place at our Midtown studio, 3545 Broadway Blvd. Masks are required and we appreciate your efforts to keep our community safe! In American culture, we do not view our bodies as the sacred vessels they are. Instead we are taught to criticize every imperfection. Judge our shapes and sizes as wrong. Badger and bludgeon every roll, sag, freckle and flick.
Just like you, I have not been exempt from the massive amounts of advertising marketed to sell me something to fix what I’m not. To give me something I am told I don’t have. This type of fear programming is immensely damaging and creates a lot of trauma to our psyches. In this class we are going to reverse the body-hate programming we have received and transform it into body-love.
