Heidi is the best yoga teacher I have had! This is the first time I joined a yoga studio outside of gym/yoga classes and I have learned so much. They even zoom classes for those that cannot come out or are away. I play tennis and wanted a supplement to my tennis and this is perfect. I never knew there were so many varieties of yoga. In two months my strength and flexibility has increased. I love looking out the windows at our beautiful Collierville Square.

Why do you love teaching yoga? I initially went through Yoga Teacher Training to learn more and to enhance my personal practice, I never thought I would teach (let alone own an amazing studio) but the more you learn, the more yoga effects your life, the more you want to share. I love it when a student begins to notice the changes in their body as they become more flexible and stronger and become aware of how they react to life off the mat in a different calmer way. Yoga works magic!
What is your favorite posture?I have so many, and it changes with what I have going on in my life. But I guess Utthita Parsvakonasana (extended side angle) and Trikonasana (triangle) poses are my favorites. I love lengthening!
How did you get into yoga? Most of my life I have been physically active, I grew up showing horses, I did step class and spin class, I was up at 5 am for boot camp, I ran (not fast, but I could go the distance). Then, about eight years ago I knew I needed something different, it seemed I constantly had an injury I was getting older and I did not want to stop, I knew what that would do. I had been reading about the benefits of yoga and decided to give it a try, I was hooked from an exercise perspective right away and began a regular practice. However, it was not until I experienced two back to back life altering events that I began to really understand Yoga! It was then that I knew that yoga would be the path to my physical, spiritual and emotional journey.
Tell us a funny story. Several years ago, practicing Crow – I came up one too many times, I was tired and I fell forward, banging my head on the floor right on the brow bone. I was embarrassed and after my teacher checked me out, I continued with my practice. I could feel my eye swelling. By the end of class my eye was quite swollen, and I ended up with a very purple eye. I became quite well known around town as the girl who got the black eye at Collierville Yoga. As it goes with your Yoga journey, I learned an important lesson, stop when you begin to feel fatigued!
