I started my yoga journey with both Ashtanga yoga and hatha yoga simultaneously over 12 years ago. I immediately fell in love with the athleticism and grace of Ashtanga and the heat of Bikram yoga (what is now referred to as “traditional” hatha). I enjoy both for many reasons, but It wasn’t until my 200 Hr Hatha yoga certification that I grew a deep respect for Bikram yoga/traditional hatha. To me, hatha yoga helps us gain mastery over ourselves by teaching self-awareness, self-discipline, and self-control all while creating elevated lives and elevated communities. The hot room is a special haven for me. Having experienced multiple accidents, the hot room (and more specifically, traditional hatha) has helped me heal from both physical and emotional injuries—2 car accidents, multiple injuries while working as a nurse in the intensive care unit, childhood experiences, and war (I served in the military in Afghanistan). The hot room is where I go when I need to heal; it is where I go to disconnect from the outside world; it is where I go to face the parts of myself that I don’t always want to see. I have had the great fortune to train with yogi legends Esak Garcia and Mary Jarvis, and with yogi champs Jasmine Nash and Jordan Lydia. In addition, I continue to train with the Jedi Fight Club. These experiences have provided me opportunities to meet multitudes of amazing individuals around the world (too many to list!), and I am forever grateful to each and every one of them…Here’s to your yoga journey, and I’ll see you on the mat!
