Customer Spotlight: D’Souza Martial Arts Academy
Last Updated on 2 April, 2026
A kid-focused martial arts school building a simpler, more sustainable way to run classes, memberships, and payments.
1. Introducing D’Souza Martial Arts Academy
Based in Canada, D’Souza Martial Arts Academy is led by owner Charlotte D’Souza, who is now in her 11th year of business. The academy runs structured, progression-based classes that primarily serve children and teens, with groups like “Little Ninjas,” Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Teen.
Charlotte’s approach is intentionally supportive for new students, offering a free trial class because, as she shared, “some kids are too shy” and may need a low-pressure first step.
2. Why They Chose WellnessLiving
Charlotte wasn’t looking to migrate from Mindbody or another platform. Instead, she’s making a bigger shift: moving from fully manual operations. As she explained, she had been “relying on e-transfers and cash and checks, mostly,” with booking and admin handled in-house.
WellnessLiving stood out as the right next step to formalize the business without overcomplicating it, especially since her priority is to keep it simple and straightforward. She’s excited about having access to tools like:
- secure payment processing
- client reviews and referrals
- customizable forms and waivers
- SMS and email marketing
- integrated reporting dashboard
Just as importantly, Charlotte is using this year to evaluate the business after a challenging period: “This has been a really tough year,” she said, and WellnessLiving will help analyze her business’s strong and weak points.
3. What They’re Building
Charlotte is setting up WellnessLiving to support a clear student journey: one free trial (with occasional exceptions), an introductory 8-week session, and then ongoing memberships. She’s exploring new membership options that better match her long-term goals, including 1-month, 6-month, and 12-month terms, with the possibility of a “gym membership” style structure that renews month-to-month after a longer commitment.
On the operations side, she’s preparing to import approximately 60 existing clients into the system, set up taxes and store settings, and configure business and location details. For now, Charlotte plans to limit client self-service while she gets comfortable, but looks forward to being able to grow with these tools.
4. What Success Looks Like
Charlotte’s definition of success is practical: less manual administration, clearer membership structure, and better visibility into how the academy is performing. Ultimately, this rollout is about creating stability and clarity in the next chapter of the academy, so Charlotte can make informed decisions about the future of the business.
With WellnessLiving, she can confidently manage payments, student progression, and policies in one place. She’ll be able to spend less time tracking details and more time teaching. Follow along for her success journey on their Instagram!
