Know Yoga: Wellness on Your Terms in Troy, Michigan
Last Updated on 31 July, 2026
After 25 years in business administration, Sheila Leddy built a practice on her own terms — and chose WellnessLiving over Mindbody and Jane to run it.
A Career Pivot Built on Independence
Sheila Leddy spent 25 years in business administration before deciding she was done working for anyone else. That decision was not impulsive. It was deliberate, informed by two decades of watching how organizations work and a growing conviction that the next chapter of her career would be built entirely on her own terms.
She is a certified yoga instructor, massage therapist, and Ayurveda health counselor. In 2019, she opened Know Yoga in Troy, Michigan, originally intending to support ongoing learning for yoga teachers. She listened to what her community actually needed and rebuilt from there. What emerged was something more practical and more personal: a multi-modality wellness practice for clients who want real solutions for their health, not an overhaul of their entire lifestyle.
“I’m seeing more and more clients who just need some solutions for health people looking to resolve pain and inflammation in a way that fits their actual lives.”
That orientation runs through every service Sheila offers and every operational decision she has made since.
A Practice Built Across Three Modalities
Know Yoga is not a single-service studio. Sheila teaches yoga individually and in groups, offers massage therapy in both Swedish and therapeutic formats across 60- and 90-minute sessions. She also provides Ayurveda health counseling both in-person and virtually. The practice is built around the idea that a client’s needs don’t fit neatly into one category — and neither should their options.
Alongside her own practice, Sheila has brought in Vikram Hirani, a guest instructor who teaches online from Rishikesh, India. His presence opens the door to future retreats and events, extending the reach of Know Yoga LLC beyond Troy and beyond Sheila’s own teaching schedule.
The clientele is practical-minded. Many are working through pain or inflammation, looking for guidance that doesn’t require a complete lifestyle overhaul. They want to feel better, and they want to book an appointment without friction. That last part (the booking experience) is what brought Sheila to WellnessLiving.
Why Sheila Chose WellnessLiving
Sheila came to WellnessLiving with firsthand experience on both sides of the counter. The studio where she teaches 40 to 50 classes per month runs on WellnessLiving and previously used Mindbody. From the instructor and client side, the difference was clear. “I don’t like [Mindbody] as much,” she said. WellnessLiving felt more intuitive, and she arrived already familiar with how it worked in practice.
She had also briefly used JaneApp through a collaborative space she rents. It was not the right fit. “I didn’t really like it,” she said. When that group discontinued the platform, the decision to move to WellnessLiving was easy.
Her core requirement was a single system that could handle all three modalities cleanly. Yoga classes, virtual sessions, and appointment-based massage and Ayurveda counseling have different booking flows, different durations, and different client intake requirements. Managing them across separate tools had become a source of ongoing frustration. The appointment section of her existing setup, she noted, “got me really frustrated,” particularly around keeping her availability accurate as it changed.
WellnessLiving’s combination of class scheduling, appointment booking, FitLive for virtual sessions, SMS reminders, digital waivers, and flexible payment options — including the ability to accept in-person cash or Venmo alongside online payments — gave her the single hub she had been looking for.
What Know Yoga Offers
The practice runs on a by-appointment model with group classes woven in. Yoga is available individually and in group settings, both in person and virtually through FitLive. Massage therapy is offered in Swedish and therapeutic formats, in 60- and 90-minute sessions. Ayurveda health counseling is available in person and online, giving clients across time zones access to Sheila’s twenty-plus years of wellness expertise.
Sheila is building in flexibility for how clients pay and how they book. Online payment is available, alongside the option to pay in person by cash or Venmo. Digital waivers are stored per client profile, replacing paper intake. SMS reminders go out automatically. As the practice grows, she is exploring booking enhancements that extend appointment time, session passes, and memberships. She plans to use these tools to introduce once she knows which offerings her clients return to most.
A 48-hour cancellation policy applies to Ayurveda services, with a $25 fee for cancellations inside 24 hours. Yoga classes are non-refundable. The policies are clear, the booking flow is self-serve, and the goal throughout is a client experience that requires no phone call to navigate.
What Sheila Is Building
Know Yoga is Sheila Leddy’s answer to 25 years of working inside other people’s organizations. The practice she is building in Troy is small by design and deliberately multi-modality by conviction — because her clients’ needs don’t fit into a single category, and neither does her expertise.
The near-term priority is operational clarity: one system that keeps her calendar accurate, makes booking straightforward for clients, and handles the administrative work that had been scattered across too many tools. When that foundation is solid, the next layer comes into view — educational wellness sessions on topics like reducing inflammation, workshops, retreats with Vikram, and a more streamlined online presence.
The thread running through all of it is the same conviction that led her to open Know Yoga in the first place. Wellness should work for the person seeking it, and a practice built around that idea is worth building carefully.
That is Know Yoga: a multi-modality wellness practice, built by someone who spent decades learning how businesses work. And decided to build one entirely her own way.
