From dancer to yogi to studio owner
Imelda’s journey began not in a yoga studio, but on the dance floor. After relocating from Melbourne to Sydney in 2008, a casual holiday visit to a yoga class sparked something unexpected.
“I’d never done yoga before,” Imelda shares. “It started out as a hangout with my dance friends, but I found myself doing fewer dance classes and more yoga classes. I just kept going.”
That spark grew into something much larger. Imelda eventually began teaching yoga and dreaming of opening a space that reflected her passion and vision.
“I’ve practiced and taught yoga everywhere,” she says. “So I thought, why not have it all in one place where I can teach and practice?”
In September 2024, she opened Yoga Sports Centre, and on day one, it was packed. “We had 30 people show up for Bikram yoga, and the Reformer room was full. That moment gave me confidence. I knew this was meant to be.”
A one-of-a-kind studio experience
What sets Yoga Sports Centre apart is its holistic programming. The space is split into two core zones, one side for strength training and Reformer Pilates, and the other for yoga. Imelda has curated an expansive schedule that includes:
- Bikram Hot Yoga

“I created this space to offer strength and balance,” Imelda says. “Everything I love to practice and teach is here.”

“This studio is built from passion,” she adds. “I want people to feel inspired, open, and strong when they walk in.”
