Magrath Boxing Club: Where Discipline Builds Champions
Last Updated on 17 August, 2026
How a 20-year coaching veteran brought professional boxing to Magrath, Alberta — and built a community gym for every age from 6 to seniors.
Boxing Changed Her Life. Now She’s Paying It Forward.
Cherie Courage has been coaching boxing for more than 20 years. She knows what the sport does to a person — not just physically, but in every direction that matters.
“Boxing changed my life. It put me on the right path. It teaches respect, discipline, and creates self-esteem. That’s why I started Magrath Boxing Club.”
That conviction is the foundation of everything at Magrath Boxing Club. It is a new boxing gym in Magrath, Alberta, built around a simple idea: professional coaching should be available to every age, every level, and every person who needs what the sport gives.
Magrath is a small city in southern Alberta. Before Magrath Boxing Club opened, a serious boxing program simply wasn’t available locally. Coach Courage changed that. The club serves athletes starting at age six, with no upper age limit on adult programming.
Five Programs, One Community
Magrath Boxing Club runs five distinct class tracks, each built for a specific stage of development.
Bronze Class serves ages 6 to 10. It focuses on fundamentals, footwork, and coordination in a coach-supervised environment. No prior experience required. No contact sparring. Silver Gloves is for ages 11 to 15 — skill development, technique refinement, and the introduction of sparring fundamentals when athletes are ready. Golden Gloves is the full adult program, open to ages 16 and up at all fitness levels.
Old Souls is a dedicated program for older adults who want to train without the intensity of the main adult classes. Women’s Self-Defense runs Monday through Thursday evenings, 8:30 to 9:20 PM, in a women-only environment focused on practical skills. Personal training is available by appointment for athletes who want one-on-one coaching.
All group classes run Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 9:30 PM, and Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM to noon. Drop-in sessions are $20. No equipment required to start — just show up.
The result is a single gym that can serve a 7-year-old working on footwork, a teenager building discipline, an adult woman learning to defend herself, and a 60-year-old staying active. That breadth is intentional. It is also what makes Magrath Boxing Club different from every commercial gym in the area.
Why Cherie Chose WellnessLiving
Magrath Boxing Club launched with no legacy data to migrate and no existing software to replace. The decision was about building the right foundation from day one.
Cherie needed a cloud-based platform she could run from anywhere. “This is all just cloud, web… we go on the web.” The club operates lean, with both owners balancing coaching alongside other commitments. A system that required a fixed computer or on-site management was not going to work.
She needed one platform for everything. Memberships with two-day and four-day access tiers. Session passes — a 5-punch card and a 10-punch pass — for members who cannot commit to a monthly plan. Drop-in class purchases. Appointment booking for personal training, with availability she controls directly. Online waivers required before anyone accesses their account. Merchandise through an online store. WellnessLiving covers all of it without pushing clients to separate platforms.
One operational requirement stood apart. Boxing Alberta requires all athletes to register with the provincial association. Cherie built the Boxing Alberta registration link directly into the client welcome email. Clients receive it automatically when they sign up. “If they get hurt and they’re not registered, then I’m liable.” That is not a software feature. It is a liability protection decision, and WellnessLiving’s automated welcome email made it simple to enforce.
How WellnessLiving Fits the Operating Model
Three WellnessLiving capabilities map directly to how Magrath Boxing Club runs.
Membership tiers and session passes side by side. Members choose between a two-day-per-week plan and a four-day-per-week plan. Clients who cannot commit monthly buy a 5-pack or 10-pack instead. Both live in the same platform. Clients never need a separate account or a separate checkout experience.
Appointment booking with coach-controlled availability. Cherie does not want athletes booking personal training sessions unless she has opened that time. WellnessLiving’s appointment booking requires her to set working hours before any slot appears available. The calendar stays clean until she decides it is ready.
Automated compliance through the welcome email. The Boxing Alberta registration link is embedded in every new client’s welcome email. It goes out automatically at signup. No manual follow-up, no missed athletes.
What Cherie Is Building
Magrath Boxing Club is Cherie Courage’s answer to a gap she saw in her community. A town without a real boxing program. Kids without a structured environment to build discipline. Adults who wanted to train but had nowhere to go.
She built the programs for all of them. Bronze for the young ones just learning to stand. Silver for the teenagers who need something to channel their energy into. Golden for the adults who want to work hard and feel it. Old Souls for the ones who aren’t done moving. Women’s Self-Defense for the ones who want to feel safer in the world.
The testimonials from early members say what the numbers cannot. A son more confident and focused at school. A teenager who was heading in the wrong direction, now disciplined and proud. A woman who walked in nervous and left with real skills and new friends.
That is what 20 years of coaching builds when you bring it home. That is Magrath Boxing Club.
