For WellnessLiving’s Co-Founder and CEO Len Fridman, connecting with our international customers on his CEO Tours has been a wonderful ‘exercise’ in reconnecting. Len has always felt it was integral to visit our valued customers in person to highlight each business in detail and to further understand how they are leveraging our software. Due to COVID-19 protocols, we’ve had to switch our tours to online interviews. Len is still doing what he loves, but he’s just doing it virtually!
On this leg of the tour, Len barely has to venture beyond his own backyard as he meets Debbie Kemp, owner of Gravitate Studio in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario. Gravitate Studio is a full-service fitness studio with group classes and training, offering in-person, virtual, and on-demand classes. They are known for their Gravity Training and are the only Gravity Training Systems studio in Toronto, Ontario.
What is Gravity Training System (GTS)?
Gravity training is a full-body workout that uses a person’s own body weight as resistance to strengthen, tone, and sculpt. The Gravity machine (a.k.a. the Total Gym Machine) consists of a moving platform (which you can kneel on or lie on face-up, sideways, or face down) placed between a foot plate and a vertical tower.
“It’s such an amazing and versatile machine,” says Debbie, who started teaching Gravity classes 10 years ago, before deciding to start her own studio. “It’s your own body weight against gravity. The height of the tower depends on the workout or exercise you’re going to do. The machine has 22 levels of intensity, so that’s a lot to choose from. Twenty-two is quite difficult, whereas one is super easy, so we have a wide range to work with!”

Engage all major muscle groups and experience a multitude of strength training, core, and stretching exercises to improve functional fitness, strength, and flexibility. The unique design of the GTS makes this class suitable for all ages, fitness, and experience levels.
GENTLE GRAVITY
Gentle Gravity is ideal for beginners, seniors, pregnant individuals, or those like to take things a little slower and gentler. No Gravity experience is required. The pace of the session is a little slower, and there is a longer focus on flexibility at the end.
GRAVITY & TRX
This session combines both the Gravity machine and the TRX Suspension Strap in a full-body circuit that will work every muscle in your body.

Meet Debbie Kemp, Owner and Instructor of Gravitate Studio
Debbie Kemp is a vibrant fitness professional who has been working in the fitness industry for over 25 years. Through her years of experience and continued education, she has become an instructor and personal trainer dedicated to offering a safe and challenging workout for all her clients.
Becoming the owner of Toronto’s Gravitate Studio is a wonderful extension of Debbie’s experiences in which she has created a studio space where everyone feels welcomed and supported.
“People are coming here and making new friends and that just adds to a feeling of a close community,” says Debbie. “Connection is so important.”
Why was going virtual so important for your clients during the pandemic?
The pandemic has been a challenging time for many business owners, especially for Ontario’s fitness business owners since the lockdowns have continued up until the present day.
“It’s for sure been tricky,” says Debbie. “Initially we made a quick transition to get on Zoom [virtual services] a year and half ago, and we tinkered with it to get us by. We needed to adjust a little bit more and get more comfortable online. WellnessLiving has been AMAZING, and they introduced us to FitVID on Demand videos, which wasn’t something on my radar. I thought this is a great extra thing I can do, to offer an on-demand option because not everyone can make my 9:30 a.m. class. This was so beneficial for my business, letting me offer another option for clients, while allowing me to attract more people. It was a win-win!”

Ontario Lockdowns 2022: Gravitate Studio is still operating thanks to FitVID on Demand

Even with the current COVID-19 lockdowns in place, she’s thinking about possibly opening a second Gravitate Studio in Toronto or outside the city, so that more people “can see the benefit of these machines and build strength!”
