Meet Kelly Frotten, Founder and Owner of Rebel Studio

Kelly grew up cheerleading competitively, but her fitness journey began in college. After a few injuries, she opted for regular workouts and yoga for low-impact relief. After three years of consistent practice, she earned her yoga certification in 2012.

However, Kelly is not your typical yogi. Rebel Studio’s name stems from her belief that you don’t have to adhere to stereotypes to practice specific types of fitness.

Kelly founded Rebel Studio in 2017 in St. Johns, Florida. They offer yoga, barre, and cycling classes, and yoga and barre teacher training.

Known for their inclusivity, Rebel’s welcoming environment is deliberate. “I’ve been to studios where I felt nervous walking in,” Kelly says. “Sometimes, many people have been going to that studio forever and they don’t make you feel welcome.”

What makes Rebel Studio so welcoming? “I’m lucky. We bring in the nicest people. There’s a sense of community and comfort when you walk in,” Kelly explains. That comfort sets Rebel Studio apart from competitors.

“One of the main reasons why I started using Presence is because I can shoot over a quick email and say, ‘Hey, can we update this for the next three days?’ Then it’s done,” she explains. Presence lessens her task load so she can focus on other areas of her business.

The Achieve Client App

The Achieve Client App makes everything easier for clients. Booking is simple, and they can find what they’re looking for, including upcoming schedules and attendance. “I think the app made us more money because it made it easier for clients to book and take more classes,” Kelly says.

Clients can also buy products or check into classes seamlessly without having to visit the studio’s front desk.

The Elevate Staff App

The Elevate Staff App is a game changer for class planning. For example, a barre instructor might simplify their props if they’re teaching a full class versus a smaller number of students. “I love that with the click of a button, we can check to see who’s signed in and who we can expect in class,” says Kelly.

The app also makes class check-ins easier. Instructors can check clients in through the app instead of returning to the front desk for each one, leaving them free to chat and connect with members.

FitVID on Demand

Rebel Studio created an extensive video workout library to adapt to pandemic closures. They found FitVID on Demand easy to use and appreciated the automated class booking emails sent to clients. It was a simple solution for quick shifts during uncertain times.

Advanced Reporting

Kelly uses Advanced Reporting to track attendance, sales, active memberships, payroll details, and more. She can easily find data on class averages and pinpoint her bestselling packages, classes, and products. At the end of the month, this feature also breaks everything down in a digestible way.

Built-In Rewards

Rewards are a fun and effective way to keep clients hooked. Rebel Studio uses WellnessLiving to reward clients for attending a certain number of classes within a specified amount of time. Discounts, branded water bottles, and more help create excitement and boost retention.

Rebel Studio holds attendance challenges. Being able to view each client’s attendance helps determine the winners, see milestones, and track birthdays. “There are little parts of the software that make my life easier,” Kelly says. “They also make clients feel special and show them we care.”

Website Widgets

Customizable widgets allow you to manage scheduling, booking, and lead captures while streamlining client interactions and marketing efforts. The goal is to make marketing interactions personal.

Rebel Studio uses the lead capture widget to create client profiles and place the leads into the system. Then, they follow up with an automated message offering a $20 first-week promo for new clients.

How did the #StandwithStudios Grant help Rebel Studio?

In 2022, Rebel Studio won a #StandwithStudios Grant. We were inspired by Kelly’s unique approach to fitness and commitment to building an inclusive community as a solo entrepreneur. She used the grant funds to support further business growth.

When asked what receiving the grant meant to her, Kelly said, “Running a business isn’t easy and being a solo entrepreneur can feel even more challenging at times. This really makes me feel supported and most importantly, I feel seen. I’m excited to be able to put this support back into my business!”
